National-level Yoga Asana Competition • Yoga for physical and mental health

Yoga is a traditional Indian science of health aimed at achieving liberation (moksha), said Sri Siddharama Chaitanya Swamiji, head of the Are Shankara Mutt in Kunigal, while inaugurating the National-Level Open Yogasana Competition organized jointly by Sri Maruti Charitable Trust (Doddaballapur), Vishwamanava Samaja Seva Trust (Sahakar Nagar), and BMS School of Architecture (Yelahanka).

“Yoga is an effective physical, mental and spiritual discipline of ancient India, and is a health science that achieves balance between body and mind,” he said.

Competitors who scored more than 72% in the final round — from Devanahalli's Vikta School, Hunasamaranahalli's Kesari International School, Kannamangala's Maruti Vidya Mandira, and Shree Yoga Vijnana Kendra, Yelahanka — were selected to represent the competition at the international yoga event to be held in Malaysia this November.

The organizers honored the winning teams with awards and mementos. N. Shivaraj, President of Vishwamanava Samaja Seva Trust, along with trainers and yoga gurus from various yoga training schools were present. Dr. Chandrashekhar, President of Sri Maruti Seva Trust, and Dr. Shailaja Bantanur, Director of BMS School of Architecture, spoke about the health benefits of yoga.
